Starting point

We will ride through Woolwich, an area full of history. Henry VIII created a dockyard and later the Royal Arsenal was strategic in the last two World Wars. The Arsenal Football club has its roots there, being then known as Woolwich Arsenal. We will use the cycle path along the Thames in an easterly direction, past various industrial areas, cycling past the Crossness Pumping Station before turning westerly to reach the Lesnes Abbey Park in Abbey Wood, with the ruins of an Abbey dating back to 1178. We will complete our ride going through Thamesmead, up The Tor and returning to the Woolwich Elizabeth line station.

Route rating

0 stars (0) Reviews

This ride uses the Elizabeth line at the start and end of the ride. The ride itself will start at Woolwich Station. Please note that non-folding e-bikes cannot be taken on London Overground services.

We will ride on cycle lanes and quieter roads as much as possible, but there will be a few busier roads. We will go on some unpaved surfaces therefore this ride is not suitable for road bikes with thin tyres.

We will stop for a lunch break at the Chesnuts Kiosk Café, within the Lesnes Abbey Lodge Park, Abbey Wood, which serves toasted sandwiches, wraps, cakes and a selection of drinks.

*Helmets aren't compulsory but advisable. *Check that your tyres are pumped and bring a spare inner tube and all necessary tools in case of a puncture. *If you can't make it anymore, cancel your space so someone else can join. *Bring some Money/card for the refreshments in the café. *Bring Locks for your bike. *Bring Water & snacks.

First-timers welcome!
