This is a steady ride to Wimbledon and Putney Commons to see and visit the Wimbledon Windmill Museum. This is a mix of quiet and segregated paths and some normal roads, and the terrain can be rough and muddy in certain sections, so not suitable for road bikes. There are a couple of elevations, but none is very challenging.
We make our way through Notting Hill and Hammersmith, crossing Hammersmith Bridge which has recently be reopened for cyclists. We join the Thames Path from there and get out in Putney, soon arriving at Putney Heath and Wimbledon Common, where we will stop for a coffee break at the Windmill Tearooms, and for a visit of the museum (
www.wimbledonwindmill.org.uk), which is free.
There is an elevation at Putney Park Lane, but on our way back we will go downhill in Wimbledon Common. While it is very fun, we must be careful with the muddy and gravelly terrain here.
We return to Roundwood Park through Richmond Park and Chiswick. We aim to be back before 3.30pm.
