This Sunday, 6th October, we'll be joining Maria Mylne, Mary Hall, Callum McRoberts and Chris Burn as they continue on their epic 1,200-mile cycle ride across the country from Land’s End to John O’Groats in memory of a partner, friend and veterinary colleague, Kirsty, who they tragically lost to suicide.

This amazing group are hoping to raise awareness of suicide and mental health issues in the profession by calling at vet schools along the way, as well as raise money for two charities, all in the name of Vet, Kirsty.

Between them they decided to turn grief into something positive by helping others struggling with their mental health and are raising money for The Canmore Trust and Vetlife.

This Sunday they'll be on day 14 and we thought it would be fantastic to join them on their leg between Hawick and Kelso where they'll be joined by the Kelso Breezers at Galedin Kelso who'll accompany them to Galedin Galashiels.

We will meet at the Heart of Hawick 0900 hours with the plan to leave no later than 0930. We'll pedal out on the back roads along Hassendean Burn and Denholm Beach to Denholm and onwards to Ancrum and Nisbet. We can either pedal all the way to Kelso (adding 5 miles on to the advertised mileage) or turn into Roxburgh where our planned cake stop will be at The Speckled Hen, making the most of the final goodies of 2024 before heading back to Hawick.

Please wear a helmet and gloves are advisable. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather and if you have lights, please have these on your bike too. Please ensure your bike is in working order and tyres are pumped up. Please have any spares or tools you might need for your model of bike, as there are so many types nowadays.

If you have an electric bike, please make sure it has enough power for the route and you have a back up plan in case of a mechanical.

The Speckled Hen is cash only, so please have change with you if you will be buying cakes or a drink. Please note, you will need change.

For those of you joining our ride, it would be great if you could make a donation to this worthwhile charity. Thank you. Lizzie and Tracey
