CF23 7EZ

This is a relatively short but hilly ride from Pentwyn and Llanrumney out into the lanes, climbing up Penylan Hill to drop down into Bassaleg. After crossing the River Ebbw, and the A467 via a footbridge (half a dozen steps up and down to negotiate), there is another climb up to the canal path and a short ride on to the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre. After a stop we will retrace our steps to Bassaleg and from there cycle via route 4 uphill through the lanes to Michaelston y Fedw, and back to the start. We will stop at the top of the bigger hills for a quick breather!

Covid-19 measures in place for the safety of us all:
* If you, or anyone in your household, or contacts have had any symptoms of Covid-19, ie new persistant cough, or fever or loss of taste or smell, in the last 10 days, or if you feel unwell in any other way, then please do not sign up. I will also need you to confirm to me at the ride start that you and your household are symptom free.
* Recommended minimum distance from each other of 1 metre while on the bikes,
* Recommended minimum 2 metres distancing at all other times, - ie at the start, end and during outdoor refreshment stops
* If sitting at an indoor/outdoor cafe, then a maximum number of 6 people can now sit at a table together, but please also maintain social distancing as per Welsh government guidance
* Please avoid touching others' cycles, or sharing anything, eg food, spares, money (ideally bring a card).
* Bring your own hand gel/wipes, drink and snack and face covering. Also money/card if you wish to buy refreshments, and a plastic bag to sit on! NB come prepared to fix issues on your bike yourself if at all possible, ie pump, spare tube, tyre levers. Guidance will be available at a distance. Cycle helmets are advised.
If you have any questions, please either 'message ride creator' through Lets Ride, or post it on the ride conversation tab.

Our destination is the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre and Cafe on the Crumlin arm of the Monmouthshire Canal, situated at the top of the Cefn flight of locks, an engineering wonder of the industrial revolution. It's a short hilly ride with some great views up the Rhymney Valley!

We'll be riding mainly on quiet suburban roads and country lanes, with a short stretch on a busy road and canal towpath

We'll have a stop at Fourteen Locks, approx 30 min, refreshments available from the cafe, or bring your own. Toilet available, voluntary donation to centre if not a customer.

Please bring a bike lock and also a spare inner tube if you have one, and your cycle helmet. Also some money for the cafe stop.

We never leave anyone behind
