This is a hilly route, getting you used to climbing as well as descending if you're following a series of training rides.
We start gently climbing as we leave the seafront in Hove, heading up towards Devil's Dyke. Once onto the South Downs, we're on quiet country lanes, and keep the ridge of hills on our left as we head west along Edburton Road (through the villages of Poynings, Fulking, and Edburton).
We can pause in Bramber or Steyning if we want a breather, or push on to head south again on Coombe Lane, a popular cycling route. Once we're in Shoreham we follow the seafront back towards Hove, using quiet residential streets and cycle paths.
Please check your bike before heading out:
- are the tyres fully inflated?
- do both brakes work well?
- is the chain lubricated?
Bring a spare inner tube for your bike (easier to change an inner tube than fix a puncture by the side of the road, and all bikes are different so you need one to fit your bike), suitable clothing for the weather, and money for the cafe.
Please arrive at the cafe in plenty of time for the ride. We will not necessarily wait for you if you're late. If delayed, call the ride leaders Helen or Vicky so we know not to wait (07581 712703 or 07917 524356).
** Note that the ride ends at Porteur cycling café (210 Church Rd), but we are happy to ride back to Hove Park with you if necessary **
If you have any questions about the ride, contact Vicky or Helen (numbers above).
