This ride should have been titled A Cultural Tour of Bethnal Green, as it involves more visits than just the Vagina Museum, but I went for catching your attention (and I think I might have). We cycle to Bethnal Green to visit 3 points of interest: the Young V&A, the Vagina Museum and the Stairway to Heaven memorial. This is not a ride for beginners, although we do navigate through a lot of quiet roads and cycle lanes.
We park our bikes at the racks inside the grounds of the Young V&A, which is our first stop to visit the Childhood Museum and have a beverage at the café. After some time here, we walk to the Vagina Museum, where their Exhibition Menopause: What’s Changed? is ending in March. See more here:
https://www.vaginamuseum.co.uk/exhibitions/currentFinally after that, just before returning to the Young V&A to collect our bikes, we will walk to the nearby Stairway to Heaven (
https://stairwaytoheavenmemorial.org/), a memorial to the worst World War II disaster involving only civilians.
THE ROUTE: We cycle through Camden, Islington and Haggerston on the way in, and return via Whitechapel, Tower Hill and Westminster.
It’s a long day, even though it’s only a medium distance ride. We aim to return to Roundwood Park at around 5pm. Bring lights if you have a fair distance to cycle back home.
If you find this ride fully booked, sign up to the waiting list as spaces always become available nearer the date. However, please do not sign up if you’re not sure you can come, and cancel your space as soon as possible if your plans change.
IMPORTANT POINTS: *Helmets aren't compulsory but advisable. *Check that your tyres are pumped and bring a spare inner tube and all necessary tools in case of a puncture. *We have a 3-strike policy: those who don’t cancel but don’t turn up on the day of the ride 3 times will be banned from booking on other rides. *Only riders who are booked on this ride will be allowed to join. *Unless the weather takes a nasty turn making it unsafe or unpleasant to cycle, this ride will go ahead even if it rains. Dress for the weather and bring a raincoat just in case. *We sometimes video record our rides which are later published on YouTube. By joining our rides, you are authorising your image to appear on the video and photos.
