Starting point

West Yorkshire
BD18 1BU

We head up Leeds Road for short period from our start point at Dock Lane before turning into West Royd and making our way to Wrose, taking advantage of two short bridle ways. After carefully navigating Five Lane Ends roundabout we head south-east towards Thornbury including a dedicated cycle path down Gain Lane past Morrisons and Hovis Bakery. Crossing the main road by lights we head down a no through traffic road to Tyersal including a manually operated railway crossing. Following quiet roads through Tyersal, a very early social housing project going back to the early 1930's, we skirt the extremities of Holme Wood, formerly part of the Tong estate, before passing through Tong Village towards Troydale in Pudsey. We pass through the small settlement of Fulneck before re-crossing the main Leeds-Bradford road and heading up to Woodhall Hills hamlet with extensive views. Dropping down into Greengates via Calverley we join the canal at Apperley Bridge to take us back to Shipley

Relatively short - and not as hilly as some rides - only 5 Garmin climbs this time! A fully circular route from Shipley through surprisingly rural parts of Leeds and Bradford including the historic village of Tong with church and hall going back millennia, as well as the historic settlement and school at Fulneck dating back to 1744. Chance to take in the stunning views atop Woodhall Hills hamlet before joining the canal at Apperley Bridge to head back home.

There are traffic free sections throughout the ride. Some short bridleways, longer dedicated cycle paths, cycle lanes and no through traffic roads probably comprising a third of the route. The remainder and predominantly quiet urban and rural roads with minimal main road exposure.

The intriguingly named Winnebagel Café in Pudsey is the planned stop and is two-thirds of the way round. It has good Trip Advisor reviews so fingers crossed.

Please wear a helmet, bring a spare inner tube and clothing suitable for the time of the year. Also, please make sure your contact and emergency details are up to date on the web site.
