The weather forecast is mixed for June 10th and so I have selected a shorter, 22.5 mile route that has options at various points to curtail the ride if the weather is bad. There are canal sections from Brunthwaite Bridge in Silsden to the outskirts of Riddlesden and Crossflatts back to Five Rise Locks. The ride has 2100ft of ascent according to Garmin but this rewards you with stunning long distance views at several points across rolling farm land.
We head towards the outskirts of Keighley and pass under the dual carriageway on the cycle path before taking the quiet and scenic ridge road into Steeton that passes the folly opposite Tower Gate Farm before dropping into Steeton. After a short main road section we pass through Sutton-in-Craven and go via Cross Hills down into Cononley. Passing through the village we cross the A650 and make our way through Farnhill to Bradley where we follow stunning, but hilly roads, up and then down into Silsden for our lunch stop at 2/3rds distance. It is then a relatively short and flat journey back to Five Rise Locks.

Our stop will be a familiar one at Beckside Café in Silsden which has indoor and outdoor seating with a good Google rating and diverse vegan and meat dishes (at least according to t’internet).
