Gilding the Lily

This Guild Wheel ride commences at Avenham Park using a shared cycling path with some amazing views including a Japanese Garden and a traditional bandstand.
We soon arrive at the historical Preston Docks where we cycle alongside the River Ribble and continue on the cycle path parallel to a main road, which we eventually cross via a bridge taking us into the pleasant countryside; here we reach the Final Whistle Café (time for a short break!)
After our coffee & cake we continue in the countryside on some undulating terrain passing through Brockholes Country Park and back via the river to the start.

This ride is mainly cycle paths some of which can be uneven and slippy depending on the weather conditions and some short periods on minor roads. There are also a couple of busy main roads to cross where we will dismount and use the crossings.

Please ensure your bike is in good working condition. Check your gears and brakes at least the night before.
Although helmets are only recommended by law and not deemed to be essential, anyone not wearing a helmet will be unable to join in on the ride, unfortunately. Please bring spare inner tubes, tyre levers and pump. A lock for the cafe stop would be advisable.

Due to Covid, It is essential that all ride participants’ carry their own PPE that is mask, hand gel and tissues. The leaders will carry first aid consumables but you will have to apply yourself. The same applies for any punctures or bike maintenance guidance will be offered at a safe distance.
