This is one of our shorter local rides, enjoying quieter roads, riverside paths and views, and a lovely café stop.
We will take quieter roads from Ealing, down to Chiswick Bridge and cross the river to Mortlake, where we have the option of a short pause to view the extraordinary tomb of Sir Richard Burton in St Mary's Churchyard
https://www.stmarymags.org.uk/tomb-of-sir-richard-burton. However, the tomb is currently being restored, so we might not be able to see very much
https://www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/restoration-of-burtons-mausoleum-starts-with-aim-to-reopen-the-tomb-for-visits-85257/ .
We ride on through Barnes and join the riverside path for a short distance into Putney. We can explore the recently reopened Putney Embankment, where a new open space has been created as part of the Tideway Super Sewer Project
https://www.tideway.london/locations/putney-embankment-foreshore/#sub-nav .
Crossing back over the river on Putney Bridge, we enter Bishop’s Park where we might make a short detour to view the memorial to the volunteers from the local area who joined the International Brigade in the Spanish Civil War
https://www.iwm.org.uk/memorials/item/memorial/18023.
Then we reach our destination: the historic Fulham Palace, once the home of the Bishop of London. We will enjoy delicious refreshments in the café and maybe have a wander around the Palace, including the chapel
