Hi all.
The weather forecast for Saturday morning is looking decidedly awful, with gale force winds predicted. Whilst my Grinch costume and decorated bike are both ready for the big day, I may have to postpone the ride until next year. Please keep an eye on this page for any updates. Likewise, please let me know if you understandably decide not to ride. Merry Xmas Nigel

Welcome to the Swindon Lets Ride Group Xmas Ride 2024, where this year we have a 2 for 1 offering! All riders, regardless of ability are invited to join us, and everyone is encouraged to add a bit of tinsel or even don a festive garment or two for the ride. Who knows, the Christmas Grinch might even make an appearance!!!
The 1st offering is a 10 mile festive ride around North Swindon on mainly cycle paths, traffic free or very low traffic routes, visiting some of the best festive decorated houses / streets. We will meet at the Moredon Sports Hub (
https://what3words.com/duck.shunts.waters ), to set off at 09:45hrs. We will cycle across to the Orbital Shopping Centre, where we will join up with our 2nd offering, and ride together for approximately 5 miles, before returning to the Moredon Sports Hub. Riders are invited to visit the Route 45 Café at the Sports Hub, where hot drinks and mince pies will be on sale.
The 2nd offering is a family orientated 5 mile route, meeting at the Customer Service area/ police station at the Orbital Centre at 10:00hrs (
https://what3words.com/strictest.kindest.applauded ). We will be joined by the first group, setting off via cycle paths up to Eastbury Way, where a complete section has been festively decorated in aid of the charity MIND (
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1683932638760583 ). We are hopeful that the lights will be turned on for our visit. We will then cycle across to Tadpole Village, passing more festively decorated house as we go, before returning to our start location. This 5 mile section is almost exclusively on cycle paths.
Both routes are aimed at being gentle festive rides for Santa’s, Elves, Reindeer or even those dressed in their favourite supermarket Christmas Jumper!!!!!!! Please dress up and bling your bike as there will be some prizes for the best.
As always, we strongly recommend that you wear a helmet and it is compulsory for children with growing heads. A pump and spare inner tube are also a good idea but since we are never far from home there is not too much to worry about should a thorn find its way into your tyre. Our ride leaders will help with any ‘on the go’ repairs.
We especially welcome new riders and family groups!
