Woods and Flashes

The ride will leave Robin Park and follow the River Douglas to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal Leigh Branch towpath to Hawkley Woods to the 3 Sisters Lake where we will have a short stop. After a rest we cycle to the viewing area and then continue through Viridor Woods and back to the canal towpath at Bamfurlong Bridge. We then follow the towpath to Pennington Flash and stop at the Robin Hood pub for refreshments.

After refreshments we pass Pennington Flash and Lowton Sailing Club on our way to Byrom Hall Woods. From Byrom Hall Woods we go through Fir Tree Flash, Bickershaw, Low Hall Woods and Amberswood to Wigan locks and then back to Robin Park.

Barriers:-
Bamfurlong Bridge - steps up/down to the road bridge
Fir Tree Flash - XL kissing gate (most bikes fit)
Fir Tree Flash - step over horse stile
Bickershaw - 2 x XL kissing gates (most bikes fit)
Beacon Road estate - A frame barrier
Low Hall Woods - 3 x XL kissing and (most bikes fit)
Rose Bridge - wheelie or bypass with the ebikes
Brittania Bridge - wheelie or bypass with the ebikes
Bottom lock - wheelie or may be open

As usual photos will be taken on the ride and will be put on the Wigan and Leigh Cycling Group Facebook page - please notify the ride leaders if you do not want your photo taken.

A ride through woods and flashes in the Wigan and Leigh areas.

The ride is a mixture of canal towpath, quiet roads, short stretches of busy roads and tracks and trails.

There will be short stops en route and a longer stop for refreshments at the Robin Hood pub.

Please bring drinks/snacks or money to buy them. Helmets must be worn on this ride.

New riders are welcome on our rides and we never leave anyone behind.
