This ride will leave Robin Park and follow the River Douglas to the Leeds and Liverpool canal and climb up some of the locks of the Wigan Flight to Whelley Loop Line which takes us to Hall Lane. From Hall Lane we cycle to Haigh canal bridge where the route will follow the towpath and also canalside tracks and trails. After passing through Haigh, Red Rock and Adlington we leave the canal and follow cycle route 55 to Astley Park for our refreshment stop at the Cafe Ambio.

The route may change on the day depending on the weather conditions.

The return route will be via the River Douglas Ford and back to Haigh, Whelley Loop Line then down the towpath to Robin Park.


Barriers on the ride:-

Wigan bottom lock - wheelie to pass through.
Brittania Bridge lock - wheelie or bypass with the ebikes
Rose Bridge lock - wheelie or bypass with the ebikes
Whelley Loop Line towpath - extra long (most bikes fit through)
Whelley Loop Line - extra long (most bikes fit through)
Whelley Loop Line - step over horse stile
Near Red Rock moorings - wheelie to pass through
Near Red Rock bridge - wheelie to pass through

We will be passing through the barriers twice!

A ride to a 16th century grade 1 listed historic house.

The ride is a mixture of canal towpath, quiet roads, short stretches of busy roads and tracks and trails.

There will be short stops en route and a longer stop for refreshments at the Cafe Ambio www.cafeambio.co.uk

Please bring drinks/snacks or money to buy them. Helmets should be worn on this ride.

New riders are welcome on our rides and we never leave anyone behind.
