The View Tube, The Greenway, Marshgate Lane, London.

This is a 42 mile ride to investigate what's going on at the Upminster Windmill and to find out what's happened to its cap and sails. This will be a trip to the Far East, and will allow us to explorie some of the scenic cycle paths that can be found in the London borough of Havering. We will meet at the View Tube and will start by cycling along a newly opened section of the Greenway to Beckton. We then follow the cycle path at the side of the A13 to Greatfields Park, where we turn of and follow some quieter roads past Eastbury House and along the old A13. Our destination is the Hornchurch Country Park and the Ingrebourne Way. As many people like to cycle up hills, we will take the opportunity to ascend to the summit of Mt Ingrebourne, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. We will stop of at the new Ingrebourne Valley Visitor Centre for a refreshment break. We then take a detour off the Ingrebourne Way to visit Berwick Glades, Bonnets Wood and the Parkland Open Space, which many people who don't live in Havering won't know about unless they do lots of cycling. We then take a look at the Upminster Windmill, before returning west via Harrow Lodge Park, the Chase, Eastbrookend Country Park and Green Lane. We will be cycling up Wanstead Park Park Road to reach a cycle bridge which we can use to cross the North Circular and the River Roding. This takes us to to the Wanstead Temple and we then cycle ride along Crownfield Road to get back to the View Tube. Ride leader: Nigel Bee (tel 07415 315 690, email [email protected]).
