This ride starts with a couple of hills but the rest is mostly flat or downhill!
Starting from Chester le Street Riverside Park Cafe we will climb the hill past Lumley Castle and through Great Lumley to get a view of the valley. From here we will cycle to Cocken Lodge and take the back road to West Rainton. We will cross the A690 and make our way to the cycle track on Moorsley Road. We will cycle past East Rainton, and come out at Houghton roundabout. We will cross under the A690 and make our way to Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve, where we will stop for a hot drink. From here it is a short skip and jump back to Gt Lumley and down the hill back to the Riverside Park.
As always we recommend the wearing of helmets and appropriate clothing for the day's weather, including waterproofs. All cyclists should carry 2 spare inner tubes to fit your tyres in the unfortunate event of a puncture.
Please arrive promptly so we can carry out a quick M check on the bikes before we set out. Depending on the ability of our riders and cafe stop, we estimate to be out for 3-4 hours. We never leave anyone behind.
Please note, the mileage is an estimate but should be no more than 20 miles.
