Starting point

Wiltshire

From the Orbital car park we cycle out along a bus gate road then on estate roads towards the dual carriageway of Thamesdown Way. We join the cycle path alongside Thamesdown Way and follow this until we reach the Tawny Owl pub.

The route takes us away from Thamesdown Way briefly, then we ride alongside it briefly again, before crossing the dual carriageway at the next set of lights to ride the old road which is now a cycle path. This is a gentle climb up to the new area of Ridgeway Farm, then onto the old hamlet of Common Platt. Some more gentle climbing takes us up to Lydiard Millicent. We ride through the village and onto Greatfield.

At the crossroads in Greatfield, we turn left and follow the road to Hook where we will stop at the Bollingbrook for refreshments.

After the stop we ride towards Royal Wootton Bassett, then turn left and ride down the hill towards West Swindon, crossing two cattle grids and passing by Lydiard Park.

We turn left into Bess Road, then meander our way through Grange Park and then ride along Roughmoor Way which marks the boundary between Middleleaze and Ramleaze. We turn left into Nine Elms and ride through this estate to Peatmoor and ride through to Ridgeway Farm again.

We retrace our outward route back down to Mouldon Hill and the Tawny Pub. Instead of using the cycle path, we ride along Queen Elizabeth Drive to take us back to our starting point.

An evening ride to Hook on and off road. This is one of a series of gentle evening rides exploring an area outside of Swindon.

The route is on quieter traffic roads and cycle paths. It’s an undulating route with gentle climbing as Hook is a bit higher up than the start point.

e will have a break for refreshments in Hook.

Please bring a bottle for your bike with your favourite thirst quencher and snacks to keep you going. For all your rides we recommend that you bring a spare inner tube that is suitable for your bike, plus a pump. If your wheels are bolted on, then please bring a spanner that fits your bike’s wheel nuts. You should dress appropriately for the weather and consider bringing your mobile phone along with cash or a debit card. Some places only accept card payments these days. As this is an evening ride please bring lights for your bike in case we are delayed and arrive back after sunset.

We welcome anyone to join us and ride with us, whether this is your first time or someone who has participated on previous rides. We will never leave anyone behind.
