Watford Cycle Hub: Super Scenic to St. Albans - Leisurely Paced Group

We are delighted to offer this Challenging route with 1615 feet - that's just under 500m of climbing in total, pacing the ride to average about 10-11 mph over this super scenic route.

Do feel free just to come to St. Albans and catch the train back as we know this will make the route 'do-able' for more people at c. 23 miles cycling, though if you're up for this mini-epic - you're invited to complete the loop! :)

Our route takes us out through Loudwater, along Sarratt Green, via Flauden to then descend Rucklers Lane. Hyde Lane is our main hill challenge and a favourite country lane to climb as it is a quiet, scenic cut through to Bedmond. From Bedmond Tin Church, we take the maze of lanes towards St. Albans and will cut through the Gorhambury Estate and head to Verulamium Park to Inn-on-the-Park for our cafe break.

Our return leg cuts back through Gorhambury and takes another lane back to Bedmond where we head through Abbots Langley and down Gypsy Lane back into Watford to Cassiobury Park.

Please check your bike is in good working order before the ride - especially that your brakes are working & your tyres are pumped.

Please bring two spare inner tubes - as changing an inner tube is faster than getting out the rubber glue if punctures happen. The Ride Leaders can help if anyone in the group has a puncture on the day. Watford Cycle Hub sell inner tubes from £4 new, or recycled ones for 50p patched, £1 with no patches, should you need to purchase one. We are Not-For-Profit and do free bike assessments should your bike need checking over, or be in need of a service.
