Starting point

Hertfordshire
WD18 6LB

Prepare for the chase as this ride takes you through Harefield (the Hare) and Dog Kennel Lane, Chorleywood (the Hound). In between, there’s pleasant rural scenery viewed from mostly quiet lanes. Your effort in ascending up to Harefield is rewarded by lovely views over lakes and waterways in the valley below. You'll then have a chance to relax as you swoop down a 220 foot descent into the valley & cross the Grand Union Canal. The route from there continues on quiet country lanes past open fields and wooded areas before arriving at Chorleywood. You pass by the rail station and take a bridge over the lines at Chorleywood to follow a narrow road leading to Dog Kennel Lane, skirting around the County Heritage site and Local Nature Reserve of Chorleywood Common. We then head back to Watford through Loudwater, with a good climb up Solesbridge Lane! :)

This route has 370 metres of climbing packed into under 20 miles, so you'll need to have experience of taking on hills in order to do this route comfortably. We will stop for coffee & cake or a light lunch about half way round for the group to relax and enjoy some social time together.

Please bring two spare inner tubes in case of puncture - as changing an inner tube is faster than using a puncture repair. Watford Cycle Hub sell inner tubes from £4 new.

Please check your bike is in good working order before the ride - especially that your brakes are working & your tyres are pumped.

If your bike might need a little more TLC or hasn't been ridden for a while, you can always bring it in for a free assessment; we're Not-For-Profit, do free assessments and promise to give you an honest price if your bike needs fixing, fine tuning or a full service.
