A lovely scenic route heading West from West Edinburgh.

From our starting point we head along the shared path towards the RBS bridge then along Freelands Road to Ratho Marina. We'll cut through the new surf park at Lost Shore where we'll spend a few minutes watching the activities then head to the Union Canal towpath. There are a few sections here where we will need to dismount and push our bikes.

The towpath skirts around Broxburn and we leave the canal near Niddry castle to head towards Winchburgh village and the new Marina where we plan to stop for refreshments at the outdoor cafe. There is also a large Sainsbury nearby with toilets.

We'll explore the new shared paths in the extensive Auldcathie park before crossing the canal at Bridge 33 onto a gravel track leading to Duntarvie.

From Duntarvie we follow quiet roads with lovely views over the Forth bridges then enter the Dundas Estate where the rhododendrons should just be coming into bloom. From there we'll make our way past Royal Elizabeth Yards to Dalmeny village and the Miller & Carter, skirt around the Cammo Estate on roads closed to traffic and back to our starting point.

A scenic circular ride from West Edinburgh to Winchburgh, incorporating waterways, marinas and parks.

Cycleways, canal towpaths, quiet roads and some short sections on busier roads.

We will stop periodically to catch our breath, enjoy the views and take photos.

Helmets are strongly recommended. Bring snacks and water to keep you going. We'll stop in Winchburgh for refreshments so bring money if you want to buy anything at our cafe stop - or bring your own picnic. Please also bring a spare inner tube (preferably two) to fit your tyres and any special tools needed to remove a wheel from your bike if it becomes necessary. Have a plan to get home in case for any reason you are unable to continue the ride (eg friend/taxi).

We never leave anyone behind
