Starting point

Wiltshire
SN2 2QP

From the Sporting Hub car park, we will exit and turn left along Cheney Manor, then left again riding on the cycle path alongside Akers Way. We cross the junction for Hereod Parkway school, then once we reach Woodhall, we drop down through the estate to reach the traffic lights.

We cross the roads here and head for the Tawney Owl pub, then turn left onto Highway 45 riding to the Oakhurst Way traffic lights.

Crossing Thamesdown Drive at these lights , we head up to Tadpole Lane, crossing this road and riding alongside the road as it gradually rises and passes on the edge of Tadpole Village. At the pedestrian crossing, we cross and turn left and continue our gentle climb through the green areas that lead us to the Thamesdown Bridge. In this section as we have great views over Swindon and hopefully, we will see some firework displays.

After we cross the bridge, we then descend through another green area which takes us to the cycle path that divides Abbey Meads and Penhill. The path turns left and takes us through Seven Fields down to Pond Lane.

From Pond Lane we ride through the old village centre of Haydon Wick on the
Northern Flyer path which brings us up onto the edge of Moredon. We cross the road and head down to Akers Way to ride on the cycle path back to the Sporting Hub.

Riding is just as much fun once the sun has set and this ride is open for anyone to join. Hopefully we'll see some fireworks as we ride too. As we are riding after sunset you must have lights on your bike. The cycle paths are lit in most places as are the quiet roads, but by law we must have lights. These can be steady or flashing.

The route is on quieter traffic roads and cycle paths. It’s a pretty flat route with one steady climb taking us alongside Tadpole Garden Village and up to the Thamesdown Bridge.

As this is a short ride there won’t be any official stops. The Sports Hub has a café so you can buy refreshments before or after the ride.

Please bring a bottle for your bike with your favourite thirst quencher and snacks to keep you going. For all your rides we recommend that you bring a spare inner tube that is suitable for your bike, plus a pump. If your wheels are bolted on, then please bring a spanner that fits your bike’s wheel nuts. You should dress appropriately for the weather and consider bringing your mobile phone along with cash or a debit card. Some places only accept card payments these days. As this ride takes place after sunset, you must have lights on your bike.

We welcome anyone to join us and ride with us, whether this is your first time or someone who has participated on previous rides. We will never leave anyone behind.
