Join Fatima and Lisa on this fairly easy 17-mile ride from Queens Park Café to Rivington Barn. The route includes a few gentle inclines and a manageable distance, making it ideal for keeping up cycling through the winter months. It’s perfect for those who prefer shorter rides in winter but still enjoy getting out and keeping the momentum going. We’ll ride at a sociable pace, perfect for a good catch-up on the off-road sections, with plenty of time to chat over coffee at the café. The route begins outside the café at Queens Park. From here we will pick up the Middlebrook Trail, pass through the golf course and continue along it until we reach the Middlebrook Retail Park. We will skirt around the retail park and head up to Chorley New Road. From there we will head through Horwich and weave our way over to Rivington Lane and head towards the Village Green Tea Room for our stop. The return journey home is more or less the same route. If you have not completed a ride participant form previously for one of the HRS rides, please download one from https://www.horwichridesocial.org/sites/default/files/2024-01/Cycling%20UK%20New%20Club%20Participant%20form%20%281%29.pdf and email it to [email protected] before the ride. Ensure your bike is in good working condition. Although helmets are only recommended by law and not deemed to be essential, anyone not wearing a helmet will not be able to join the ride. Please bring spare inner tubes, bike levers and a pump. A lock is advisable for the café stop. Photos will be taken during the ride which will be shared on social media. If you do not wish your photo to be taken, please advise a ride leader before the ride.

This route is a mixture of roads and Middlebrook Trail. Elevation is approx. 538ft. Average speed 8-10 mph.

First-timers welcome!
