TFCC - Traffic Free Cycling Club Rides use the network of canal towpaths, cycle lanes and tracks avoiding the road as much as possible. We ride at the pace of the slowest ride ensuring that the group stays together, and the speed is about 8 - 10 mph. The ride this week is to the Chiltern Open Air Museum. The route will be very hilly so if you like a challenging ride this is for you, the route will be as follows Little Britain at West Drayton Following the River Colne to Uxbridge Join the Grand Union to Swan & Bottle Shared Cycle way to Denham Country Park Toilet and Breather stop Approx 6miles in. We rejoin the Grand Union by the White Bridge over to the other side into the Denham Gravel Pitts. On leaving the gravel pits go through a park on quiet roads Carefully crossing the notorious busy Harvill Road into an off road 1st killer hill Brief stop at the Anzac Cemetery Big Hill Alert, out of the car park onto the pavement, through a further off road section Finally running out of, off road sections we join Church Road still climbing Through Harefield Village we soon at our second rest stop at the Gardens of the Old Orchard approx 12 miles. We continue down the hill mind the hidden speed bumps to Black Jacks Lock. Taking the off road bridleway, we then join the Hillingdon Trail This is a much bigger climb only one of riders has been successful so far and it wasn't me. At the top we rest, or in other words wait for me to get my breathe back from pushing my bike up the hill. We follow the Trail to the end, and then there will be a bit of exploring but we are only 3 miles from lock 81 and a well deserved Tea Break - 20 miles in From here in Trevor my fellow TFCC ride leader will take us through some big climbs into the Chilterns and finally to Chiltern Open Air Museum. The route back is much quicker approx 10 miles to West Drayton, but if time allows we might make it longer by going through Gerrards Cross to Black and Langley Parks hence the Approx 40 mile Title. Timings - Leave West Drayton 10am - Denham Park - 10:30 - Harefield Orchard - 11:30 - Rickmansworth Lock 81 - 12:30 - Chiltern Open Air Muesum - 14:00 - Leave Chiltern Open Air Museum - 16:00 - West Drayton - 17:30 - If direct route used - West Drayton - 19:00 - If extended route used.
