** Please note: the purpose of this ride is to visit Sutton House, a National Trust property in Hackney https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/london/sutton-house-and-breakers-yard.

If you are not interested in visiting the House, please do not book this ride unless there are spaces available no sooner than two days beforehand, so that those who do want to visit the House have priority.

If you do want to visit the House, please see the information below about the Guided Tour. **

Sutton House

Sutton House is a small Tudor manor house in the centre of Hackney, built in 1535 for an aide to Thomas Cromwell (famous as Henry VIII’s Chief Minister and the protagonist of “Wolf Hall”).
Admission to the House is £6.55 for non-members of the National Trust, free to members. There is no additional charge for the Guided Tour, but you should book it in advance to be sure of getting a place.

** Bookings open a couple of weeks beforehand. You need to check the website after 24 July to book your place. **

The Ride

This is an urban ride, starting from Paddington and taking us through Marylebone, Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury, before turning up through Islington and into Hackney. Most of our route is on side roads, following Cycleway 27. However, this is mainly not a segregated cycletrack, and we can expect busy traffic in some areas.

We will aim to reach Sutton House by approx. 11.15am. We will be able to store our bikes in a secure space within the property. We will join the Guided Tour at 11.30am.

The Guided Tour takes approx. one hour. We will then ride on a short distance to Victoria Park, for refreshments at the Hub Café https://harp-nonagon-yx3s.squarespace.com/, or bring your own food for a picnic if you prefer.

After lunch, we ride a short distance through Bethnal Green to Whitechapel Station for train services home. We expect to reach Whitechapel by approx. 2.30pm. Elizabeth Line, London Overground Windrush Line, Hammersmith & City, and District Line services can all be accessed here.
