Starting point

West Yorkshire

We leave Hirst Wood and head towards Baildon en route to Hollings Hill. Going through Guiseley we go through the airport and on to Adel, going past York Gate Garden, before passing some of North Leeds more expensive properties until we reach the excellent cycle path along the East Leeds Orbital Road at Shadwell. This takes us to Thorpe Park Retail Park and we thread through there into Temple Newsam Park. We leave the park by going under M1 and head towards the Aire Calder Navigation via Skelton Lakes. Unfortunately we still have the foot bridge, albeit improved, to cross in order to follow the cycle path into Leeds. We go past Royal Armouries and Asda HQ before meeting the Leeds Liverpool Canal and a steady ride back to Hirst Wood.

A ride past Leeds Bradford Airport and along the quiet residential roads of North Leeds before picking up the dedicated cycle path along the East Leeds Orbital Road towards Temple Newsam Park. From there we follow the Aire Calder Link into Leeds and then back along the canal to Hirst Wood.

Mainly quiet residential roads apart from Hollings Hill as we head towards Shadwell across North Leeds. We then pick up the dedicated cycle path alongside the East Leeds Orbital Road before quiet residential roads again into Temple Newsam Park. We leave there and head towards the Aire Calder Navigation, again on cycle paths, which goes traffic free into Leeds. We follow cycle routes to the canal which is then traffic free until we reach our start and end point in Hirst Wood.

We will stop at Temple Newsam House which has cycle parking, cafe and toilet facilities plus indoor and outdoor seating. It is 24 miles to here. There is an option for riders who want to foreshorten the ride by catching a train in Leeds which is at 31 miles. The full ride will be 45 miles.
