A Guide To Group Riding
You may have already ridden with groups of riders or even joined a local club and taken part in their club-rides. If you’re not used to riding in a group, riding while surrounded by other riders can be intimidating.
Communicate.
The most important factor to successful group riding is communication. Make sure you know the meaning of and always pass any verbal signals through the group. As well as obvious shouts such as:
• “SLOWING”, – to indicate to others in the group that you are braking or slowing down.
• “STOPPING”, - to indicate you are breaking to a complete stop.
• “CAR FRONT(DOWN)”, - to indicate a vehicle coming from the front/moving DOWN the road in the opposite direction to the group.
• “CAR BACK(UP)”, - to indicate a car coming UP the road from behind the group.
• “CAR THROUGH”, to indicate a car is overtaking the group
• “SINGLE OUT” to indicate riders should adopt a single file formation(one behind another)
• “DOUBLE UP” to indicate that riders should ride in two abreast formation (side by side in two’s)
• Be aware there are local variations of these shouts, so use your eyes too.
