Sirhowy Valley to Parc Penallta - with an extra loop to Taff Bargoed park

This is an out and back route with a little loop at the far end before the return leg. We will stop at the cafe as we come back down the trail.
We head out through the Sirhowy valley park on the trail following NCN route 47. At the end of the park we have a little uphill stretch alongside the road before crossing over and heading over the Hengoed viaduct. Then the path follows the Taff Vale extension to Parc Penallta. We ride through the park and on to the edge of Taff Bargoed park. Here we turn left over the bridge and follow the Celtic trail for about 1/2 mile through the trees and alongside the river. Then it's a short 1/2 mile along a little lane as we head back to join the trail again. From here, it's about 3 miles back down the trail to the café.
After a short break we follow the trail back through the park, over the viaduct and back into Sirhowy valley and to the start.

A scenic and almost completely traffic free ride through 3 parks

This route is almost entirely traffic free using a mix of trails and cycle paths following cycle route NCN47

We will stop at the Colliers Rest café for refreshments at about the 2/3 point of the route.

Please wear a helmet and bring along some money and a lock for the coffee stop. Also it is a good idea to carry a spare tube just in case.
