This is one of our easier Breeze rides in Brighton & Hove, nice and flat along the seafront and not too challenging a distance. Beware, however, that the wind can make the ride one way pretty tough (but lovely in the opposite direction, with a tailwind!).
It's a great one to try if you've already done 'Cruise to Carats' with us, and now want to extend your ride by a few miles.
We will meet at the Peace Statue for introductions and a short bike check before we set out.
We follow NCN2 all the way - one of the many Sustrans routes for cyclists that are dotted around the UK. Our journey starts on the cycle path along the seafront, all the way to Hove Lagoon. From there, we pick up the Basin Road, a quiet road nestled between Shoreham Harbour and the beach. When we reach the locks, next to Carats Cafe, we dismount our bikes to push across, perhaps stopping to let a boat or ship through the locks.
From here, we follow NCN2 on quiet residential back streets (away from but parallel to the busy A259 on the seafront) all the way to Shoreham-on-Sea. We will pause here before we return the way we came - either for a picnic if you want to bring a drink and snack, or a takeaway from a cafe if COVID-19 restrictions prevent us sitting down at a cafe.
Please check your bike before coming out:
- are both tyres fully inflated?
- do both brakes work well?
- is the chain clean and lightly oiled?
Also, please bring a spare inner tube to fit your tyres. We will get a wide variety of bikes on this ride, an we can't carry spares for everyone. If you get a puncture, it's easier and quicker to fit a new inner tube tan try to fix a puncture road side.
If you have any questions about the route or ride, contact the ride leader Alison on
[email protected] or 07967 094967.
Also, if you get delayed getting to the start, please call or text her on her mobile. We may have to leave without you if other riders have to be back from the ride by a certain time.
