This steady paced ride is suitable for experienced riders with preferably hybrid tyres. We will be riding on a mixture of quiet and busy roads through to Uxbridge and Iver where we will pick up route 61 passing by Langley park, then through to Slough and Eton onto Windsor. We will cycle around the castle grounds and onto Old Windsor, stopping at Runnymede for refreshments.
Runnymede is the site of the sealing of the Magna Carta, the ‘Great Charter of Freedoms’.
Sealed in 1215 by King John, the Magna Carta aimed to bring England’s sovereigns under the rule of law and was the foundation for the country’s legal system.
The return route will be via Datchet and through Ditton park where we will pick up route 61 again through to Iver and then back to Eastcote via Hillingdon.
There are some stretches of route 61 that are bumpy as we pass alongside a farm and through a wooded area, so hybrid tyres are best. There may also be some surface water following all the rain we have had.
- Please check your bike thoroughly before you come. Bring water, a bike lock and card for the café. I also recommend you carry a spare inner tube.
