This is a one-way ride, finishing at Staines, from where there is a frequent South West Trains service to bring us home (see below for details). The ride explores the Thames Path west of Hampton Court, taking us out into Surrey, then crossing the river on the Weybridge/Shepperton ferry, and continuing almost to Windsor.
From Ealing, we ride through Brentford, Syon Park, Isleworth and Twickenham, to reach the Crane River Park, and then on into Bushy Park. We have a brisk ride across Bushy Park, then leave the Park at the Hampton Court entrance and cross the river at Hampton Bridge. From here, we have an easy-going ride along the river. The path is sometimes stony and some parts can be muddy after wet weather. We have lovely riverside views as we pass through Sunbury Lock and onto Walton. After a brief diversion up to the road, we come back down to the river at Walton Bridge, where we have our refreshment stop at Walton Wilde Brunch
https://www.wildebrunch.com/ (28km/ 17 miles).
After refreshments, we ride on to Weybridge where we take the ferry over the river to Shepperton (single fare with bike is £5) and then westwards on the other side. We use a shared path alongside a short stretch of the busy Chertsey Road, before returning to the riverside through Laleham and into Staines. It is then a short ride up to Staines Station for train services home.
Trains go via either Brentford (2 trains per hour, journey time 21 mins) or via Richmond (3 trains per hour, journey time 17 mins). From Brentford, it is a short ride back to Ealing. At Richmond, you can change onto London Overground Mildmay Line services via Acton Central and Willesden Junction. Oyster is valid from Feltham.
