The ride will leave Robin Park and follow the Wigan Pier to Southport Pier cycle route 562. We cycle on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath passing through Crooke, Gathurst, Appley Bridge, Parbold and Burscough until we reach New Lane swing bridge where we leave the towpath and take to the quiet country lanes on cycle route 562. When we reach the A570 Scarisbrick New Road we go on the roadside cycle lane which continues alongside a stream before emerging in Portland Street which runs straight through to Southport Pier Gardens.

The return journey will take us for a ride along the sea front before retracing our route back to Robin Park.

As usual photos will be taken on the ride and will be posted on the Wigan and Leigh Cycling Group Facebook page - please notify the ride leaders if you do not want your photo taken.

The ride is mainly flat and passes along the canal towpath, country lanes and farming land.

The ride is a mixture of canal towpath, quiet roads, short stretches of busy roads and tracks and trails. There will be short stops en route and a longer stop for refreshments so please bring drinks and snacks or money to buy them. New riders are more than welcome on our rides and we never leave anyone behind. Helmets must be worn on this ride.
