Ride to Sankey Valley

The ride will leave Robin Park and will avoid the usual climb up to Windy Arbour and Billinge and instead will follow the Leeds and Liverpool Canal Leigh Branch to Bamfurlong Bridge and then ride through Viridor Woods, Golborne, Haydock Racecourse and across the East Lancs road to Mesnes Park in Newton le Willows. After a short stop at the sculpture we continue to the Sankey Valley Trail and follow it to the Dam Bar at Carr Mill Dam for refreshments.

The return journey will be through Garswood to Landgate and down the "Devil's Backbone" to Hawkley Woods and back to Robin Park.

As usual photos will be taken on the ride and will be posted on the Wigan and Leigh Cycling Group Facebook page - please notify the ride leaders before the start of the ride if you do not want your photo taken.

An amended route for us and a ride through the Sankey Valley on a well maintained trail.

The ride is a mixture of canal towpath, quiet roads, short stretches of busy roads and tracks and trails. There will be short stops en route and a longer stop for refreshments so please bring drinks and snacks or money to buy them. New riders are more than welcome on our rides and we never leave anyone behind. Helmets must be worn on this ride.
