From the Sport Hub car park, we ride out alongside the cycle track towards Nova Hereod Academy and turn left to join up with the cycle path alongside Akers Way. We follow the cycle path as the road becomes Moredon Road then we head left into the estate to take us to Thamesdown Drive.

We turn left onto the old railway line path and follow this all the way into West Swindon.

Turning right at Westmead we ride under Mead Way, then turn left and follow the stream to reach Westlea park. We turn left and head up to Mannington and cross under Great Western Way. The cycle path then follows alongside Wootton Bassett Road before bearing left to cross Westcott Recreation Park on the Western Flyer. The route crosses at the lights to run alongside the where the old canal used to flow, then we cross Wootton Bassett Road again taking us through Even Swindon to find our George (George Street).

We exit onto Park Lane and immediately turn right at the lights to ride along Church Place and into Bristol Street. We turn left onto the Northern Flyer and ride under the railway line and under Great Western Way into Ferndale. We turn right into Cheney Manor Road up to Akers Way. A brief ride alongside Akers Way then crossing the road we reach Church Walk South as the Northern Flyer takes us up to Moredon and Church Walk North. The route takes us slightly downhill to Avonmead which then follow to Thames Avenue. We turn right and then left to follow the estate roads down to Seven Fields. We turn left onto the cycle path to reach the bridge and turn right to follow the path through Seven Fields with Abbey Meads on our left and Penhill on our right. As a green recreation area appears we turn left and follow the path to reach Abbey Meads village centre to encounter our Dragon.

Leaving the village centre we follow cycle paths through Abbey Meads to reach Lady Lane. We cross Westfield Way and ride along the old Haydon End road before turning left to ride along the cycle path to reach the Tawny Owl pub. We turn left and follow the cycle path alongside Thamesdown Drive, passing Haydon Henge, riding up through the estate and following the cycle path back to the Sporting Hub.

An evening ride from Moredon Sports Hub to find George and a Dragon to mark St George’s Day. This is one of a series of gentle evening rides exploring an area of Swindon.

The route is on quieter traffic roads and cycle paths. It’s a pretty flat route that meanders around North, West and Central Swindon. Part of the route is along the old railway path, making it unsuitable for road bikes.

As this is a short ride there won’t be any official stops. However, there is a café at the start and finish.

Please bring a bottle for your bike with your favourite thirst quencher and snacks to keep you going. For all your rides we recommend that you bring a spare inner tube that is suitable for your bike, plus a pump. If your wheels are bolted on, then please bring a spanner that fits your bike’s wheel nuts. You should dress appropriately for the weather and consider bringing your mobile phone along with cash or a debit card. Some places only accept card payments these days. As this is an evening ride please bring lights for your bike as part of the ride will be after sunset.

We welcome anyone to join us and ride with us, whether this is your first time or someone who has participated on previous rides. We will never leave anyone behind.
