Ride around Fir Tree Flash

The ride will leave Robin Park and follow the River Douglas to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and climb most of the locks and then cut through the woods and follow the tracks to the New Deep Pit ramped railway bridge where we cross the tracks. After cutting through the estates we emerge near Hindley Prison and follow some new trails over to Fir Tree Flash and after a short stop at the viewing area we follow the banks of the flash. We then continue for a nearby refreshment stop.

The return route will be through Crankwood and then on the towpath back to Robin Park.

Barriers:-
There are a few barriers and step over horse stiles on this ride.
Bamfurlong Bridge - steps up/down to the road bridge.

As usual photos will be taken on the ride and will be put on the Wigan and Leigh Cycling Group Facebook page - please notify the ride leaders if you do not want your photo taken.

A ride around Fir Tree Flash nature reserve.

The ride is a mixture of canal towpath, quiet roads, short stretches of busy roads and tracks and trails.

There will be short stops en route and a longer stop for refreshments at a venue to be decided.

Please bring drinks/snacks or money to buy them. Helmets must be worn on this ride.

New riders are welcome on our rides and we never leave anyone behind.
