Starting point

London
W5 5AL

This is a short local ride at a leisurely pace, with plenty of time to look around at the attractive neighbourhoods and riverside views of this part of West London.

From Ealing, we ride down to Chiswick Bridge and onto the riverside at Mortlake. We turn up through quiet back roads, perhaps making a detour to visit the remarkable tomb of the 19th century explorer Sir Richard Burton in Mortlake churchyard (https://www.stmarymags.org.uk/tomb-of-sir-richard-burton). Reaching Barnes, we might pause again to admire the pretty village green and duck pond, before making our way back across the river on the historic, and currently traffic-free, Hammersmith Bridge. We have our café stop either at the recently opened Paddenswick Tea Gardens https://www.thepaddenswickteagardens.co.uk/ or at the Ravenscourt Park Garden Centre Café (https://w6gardencentre.co.uk/cafe/), before returning to Ealing via Acton.

We will need to dismount and walk our bikes for approx 100m under the railway bridges in Barnes and also to cross Hammersmith Bridge.
