Let’s pretend to be gladiators for the day as we go Roman and check out the fort of Piercebridge next to the River Tees.

Our march by bike will start at Willington and pass Witton Park and Evenwood on our way out, while we will return via Walworth, Ulnaby, Brusselton, Shildon and Bishop. The plan is to stop for refreshments at Ulnaby Farm (just over halfway) but will confirm once we have reccied. We’ll mainly be on tarmac but will travel a couple of stretches of the Brandon Bishop railway path (approx total 7-8 miles). If it’s been wet recent to the ride then be prepared for some muck, and mudguards preferred. The ride’s typically hilly for west/south Durham with 1800’ total elevation.

Expect to be out for 5-6 hours and come suitably dressed for cycling and wandering around the fort (free entry).

In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to us setting off. Make sure your bike is in working condition and bring a spare tube to fit your tyres.

As the weather can be unpredictable at this time of year we may alter the ride slightly if conditions are not great and we'll make any decision to cancel/amend by 8.30am on the morning and let you know via the conversation tab within the ride booking system.
