The View Tube, The Greenway, Marshgate Lane, London.
This is a ride in search of the oldest wooden church in the world and probably the oldest wooden building in Europe still standing. The church is located in Greensted, which is so far away that it is not even in a London borough, but rather is a village in the Ongar civil parish of Essex, England.
The ride is 37 miles long and it is recommended that you do a few shorter rides before tackling a ride like this.
You may have noticed that many of our rides are copied from other people's rides, rather than being ones that we have devised ourselves. This ride is no exception - it was copied from a ride organised by Newham Cyclists. Their ride report is at http://newhamcyclists.org.uk/ride-report-greensted-church/
We start off by cycling along the flat Lee Valley route up to the White Water Centre, where we stop for a refreshment break. We then tackle some hills, cycling across to Upshire and Copped Hall and then going across to Greensted Church. We then return by following a largely downhill route back to Chigwell Station, where the ride finishes.
