* Please note: Our meeting place is outside Stonebridge Park Station, not at Ealing Town Hall.*
Milton Keynes. Concrete cows and roundabouts. But did you also know that the city has an extensive network of cycling paths through parks and nature reserves, around lakes and reservoirs, alongside disused railway lines, rivers and canals? This train-assisted full day ride offers an almost totally traffic free experience of riding through green spaces and exploring some of the sights of Milton Keynes. And yes, we get to see the Concrete Cows, too.
We will take the 9.04am train service from Stonebridge Park, changing at Harrow & Wealdstone, to Milton Keynes Central. A standard off-peak return fare is £29; we will be able to get a Group Save discount.
Our route is a circuit of the northern side of the outskirts of the city, visiting Campbell Park, Willen Lake, and Newport Pagnell, before joining the Railway Walk track and then connecting to the Ouse Valley Trail.
We will have a picnic lunch. Please bring your own food and also enough water/other drinks to last you the day.
After our picnic lunch, we follow the Great Ouse River through the Flood Plain Forest Nature Reserve to discover the remarkable Iron Trunk Aqueduct, where the Grand Union Canal crosses above the river. We circle back around through Stony Stratford and more trails through country parks, including viewing the famous Concrete Cows, before returning to Milton Keynes Central Station.
** Spaces on this ride are limited to 6 riders, to facilitate taking our bikes on train services. Please do not book a place unless you are sure you can attend. If you need to cancel your place, please give as much notice as you can, so that the place can be made available to someone else. **
