I was inspired by the fabulous sunset this evening with the wind turbines on the horizon.
Whilst not a long ride at just under 27 miles, it is hilly with 2,700ft of climbing. Most of this occurs on the way up to the wind farm, the turbines of which can be seen from far afield. The wildness of the moors above Oxenhope and the views whilst up high, including of reservoirs do make this a rewarding ride.
We leave Hirst Wood via Nab Wood, skirt round Dixons Cottingley Academy before heading towards Hewenden Viaduct and then up to the Flappit Inn. Avoiding Haworth we go through Oxenhope, passing Manorlands Hospice on the way, and head towards Hebden Bridge before taking the wild road up to the wind farm. We drop down to Wainstalls and Mixenden before making our way to Keelham and Robertshaws Bakery and Cafe. We leave and head across the moors between Thornton and Wilsden, crossing our outward route at Sandy Lane before going down Moorhead and back to Hirst Wood.
The ride is almost totally on road and with probably more main roads than usual.

We will stop at two-thirds distance at Keelham for what I know as the original Keelham Farm Shop but is now called Robertshaws Bakery and Cafe to distinguish it from their two larger farm shops. There is indoor and outdoor seating with a wide range of reasonably priced food plus delicious cakes.

Helmets are a must as is some hi-vis outerwear. Make sure you have a spare inner tube at least and that your brakes, tyres etc are in good condition. Check that the British Cycling website has up to date personal and emergency contact details.
