There is a favourable weather forecast for Wednesday and this is a circular ride from Five Rise Locks heading in a clockwise direction as far as the top of Lothersdale before returning via Cononley, Farnhill and Silsden.
The ride is relatively short at 24 miles though does have 2,00ft of climbs, providing stunning long distance views.
The route is predominantly on road with Garmin calculating that there are 5.5miles of unpaved road, mainly the canal.
We follow the usual route through Keighley from Five Rise before making our way up to Keighley Tarn and then across the moors above Sutton-in-Craven before dropping down into CrossHills from where we head up to the junction at the top of Lothersdale. We then drop down to go all the way through Cononley and we cross the A650 and make our way through Farnhill and Kildwick down into Silsden for our lunch stop at 2/3rds distance. It is then a relatively short and flat journey back to Five Rise Locks utilising the canal and other traffic-lite roads.

Our stop will be a familiar one at Beckside Cafe in Silsden which has indoor and outdoor seating with a good Google rating and diverse vegan and meat dishes (at least according to t’internet).

Helmets are a must as is some hi-vis outerwear. Make sure you have a spare inner tube at least and that your brakes, tyres etc are in good condition. There are some nice downhills. Check that the British Cycling website has up to date personal and emergency contact details.
