Starting point

Midlothian
EH8 9LD

We will ride from the Meadows across to the Innocent cycle path, and then head through Peffermill Industrial Estate to Craigmillar Castle Park. From there, we go through Little France Park and take a cycle path around the back of the hospital. We than take a quiet road to Ellen’s Glen, cut through the Malbet Park estate and cross Lasswade Rd to reach Liberton Park and then Seven Acre park. We then pass the edge of Mortonhall campsite, and carry on to Mortonhall garden centre, where we will stop for refreshments. After our stop, we will retrace our route to the top of Mortonhall campsite where we take a quiet road to Liberton Drive. After a short distance on Liberton Drive and Liberton Brae, we will go along the Hermitage of Braid to Braid Road. From here, we follow a series of quiet residential roads through Marchmont to return to our start on the Meadows.

Route rating

0 stars (0) Reviews

Starting from the Meadows, we go out through Craigmillar Castle and Little France parks, cross the edge of the Braid Hills and then make our way along the Hermitage of Braid and then back to the Meadows. At various points we will be rewarded with good views across to the City and beyond.

The route is a mixture of cycle / shared use paths and quiet roads, with two very short sections of busier road. There are some parts where the path is gravel and/or pothled, so the route is not suitable for anyone with skinny tyres.

We will stop at Mortonhall garden centre for refreshments, and at points along the way to catch our breath.

Helmets are strongly advised. Bring a payment card or cash if you wish to buy any refreshments at our stop, but feel free to bring your own refreshments. Bring a bike lock if you can, but don’t worry if you don’t have one as we can lock bikes to each other. Also bring a spare inner tube and have planned a means of getting home in the event of mechanical breakdown (taxi, phone a friend etc).

We never leave anyone behind
