Starting point

Midlothian
EH5 3ET

From the 5-ways junction we will make our way to the path beside the Water of Leith and along to The Shore. Then onward to Leith Links, Seafield, Portobello Promenade and Fisherrow Harbour where there is opportunity for a comfort stop if required. After the harbour we'll follow the coast, passing Fisherrow Links Park and crossing the mouth of the Esk at the Electric Bridge.

We'll make a loop around the Links - Musselburgh Links (old golf course) and Levenhall Links. There is a bird reserve here and several bird hides along our route. We'll stop for a while to enjoy the views and the tranquility.

Returning to Musselburgh we'll follow the path along the River Esk before turning through Monktonhall to reach Queen Margaret University where we can stop for refreshments. Continuing through Newcraighall and Brunstane we rejoin Portobello Promenade where we retrace our tracks to Seafield where we take the Restalrig Railway Path. Our route then passes Lochend, Sunnyside and McDonald Road where we cross into St Mark's Park and follow paths back to the starting point.

There will be lots of opportunities to stop and catch our breath, enjoy the views and take photos. Bring a snack and water for the ride, and money if you want to purchase anything at our cafe stop (or bring your own refreshments).

Please wear clothing appropriate for the weather, have your bike in good order and bring a spare inner tube, pump and any tools needed to remove a wheel should you need to - or a strategy for getting yourself home in the event of a mechanical (eg friend/taxi).

We never leave anyone behind!
