We will ride down from Paddington through beautifully kept cobbled mews. We will go past the Hyde Park stables, view the late Dame Lucie Rie’s home, ride to Tottenham Court Road, Seven Dials, the British Museum, Smithfield Market to reach our picnic stop at Charterhouse square. Please bring a picnic. You will have time to view the stunning architecture, visit the chapel and museum of Charterhouse.
Our cycle will then take us further east, to Bunhill Field Burial ground, where you will see the tomb of William Blake. We will continue through Shoreditch, Spitalfield, Bethnal Green, areas with a history to the Huguenots who sought sanctuary here in the seventeenth century. Our route will continue to weave through areas of history and cobbled streets until we reach Shadwell basin, and the redeveloped area of the now defunct docks. We hope to stop for a beverage and a view of the Thames at Rahel’s Coffee Shop, before making our way through St Catherine’s Dock, past the Tower of London and back to Farringdon Station, where you will be able to catch the Elizabeth Line or Metropolitan line.

Route rating

5 stars (1) Reviews

This ride uses the Elizabeth line at the start and end of the ride. The ride itself will start at Paddington Station. We will be returning back to Ealing Broadway using the Elizabeth line from Farringdon station. W5 2NU Please note that non-folding e-bikes cannot be taken on London Overground services.

We will be going along cobbled streets, therefore thin racing bike tyres are not recommended. We will ride on quieter roads as much as possible, but there will be busier stretches, so you need to be a confident cyclist to join this ride.

We will stop for a picnic lunch at Charterhouse square. There are also coffee shops nearby to purchase a sandwich and a drink if you are not able to bring your own food. Our second stop will be at Rahel’s Coffee shop in Shadwell.

*Helmets aren't compulsory but advisable. *Check that your tyres are pumped and bring a spare inner tube and all necessary tools in case of a puncture. *If you can't make it anymore, cancel your space so someone else can join. *Bring some Money/card for the refreshments in the café. *Bring Locks for your bike. *Bring Water, a picnic & snacks.
