Starting point

Wiltshire

From Coate Water we head outwards the entrance, then ride along the cycle path passing the Richard Jeffries Museum, then turning right into Day House Lane. We ride along this road, part of which is a closed road. We continue onto Liddington, then onto towards Wanborough, but turning right to head up to Foxhill. At the crossroads we turn right along Ermin Street, travel through the tunnel under the motorway, then turn right and head into Aldbourne for our refreshment stop at Time at the Forge.

After the stop we head out of Aldbourne with a short sharp 10% climb, then climb steadily up to Hillwood, then turning right to Woodsend. We turn left and enjoy the steep descent of Snap hill to Ogbourne St George. Here we turn right and ride to Draycot Foliat, then through Chiseldon. We cross the busy A346 for Badbury, then turning right and heading back along Day House Lane to Coate Water.

Route rating

A morning ride into the North Wessex Downs National Landscape to Aldbourne and back on country roads.

Most of the route is on quieter traffic roads. There is a short section on cycle paths and a closed road too. The route has some climbs, the steepest is a brief 10%. We will regroup at the top of each climb.

We will stop at Time at the Forge in Aldbourne.

Please bring a bottle for your bike with your favourite thirst quencher and snacks to keep you going. For all your rides we recommend that you bring a spare inner tube that is suitable for your bike, plus a pump. If your wheels are bolted on, then please bring a spanner that fits your bike’s wheel nuts. You should dress appropriately for the weather and consider bringing your mobile phone along with cash or a debit card. Some places only accept card payments these days.

We welcome anyone to join us and ride with us, whether this is your first time or someone who has participated on previous rides. We will never leave anyone behind.
