Please join me for this ride including the Pen Y Pass hill climb, ranked as one of the top hill climbs in North Wales. We start at Llanberis heading straight up the pass. There’s some lumps coming out of Llanberis but the climbing doesn’t really start until you’re through the village of Nant Peris. The climb from this point averages 6% to the top with a maximum grade of 10.2%. Early on, the grade sits at around 3-4%, a nice early warm-up for what’s about to come. Once at the top we are rewarded with a traverse of the Dyffryn Mymbyr valley to Capel Curig and then down to Betws Y Coed alongside the Afon Llugwy. Then we retrace our steps to Llanberis.
Large proportion on A-roads and B-roads, with some country lanes mixed in.
This ride is weather dependent. We won't ride if there are strong winds (20mph+) or it is pouring with rain.
This ride is 'no frills' as there is NO café stop. We will have some roadside stops to have a drink/snack (bring your own).
Ideal for Breeze riders who want to challenge themselves and have fun! And those who are new to Breeze rides are very welcome. This ride is classified as ‘challenging’ because it includes the Pen Y Pass hill climb (over 700m ascent), completing the ride at an average pace of approx. 20kph (12mph). Please be sure you are confident that you can keep to this pace before signing up. This is a tough winter ride and should not be underestimated. We ride up hills at our own pace and regroup at the top. We never leave anyone behind.
WHAT TO BRING:
