We’ll cycle from the Gwent Crematorium up a quiet side road to New Inn before taking a right turn onto Jerusalem Lane. This will take us down to Glascoed and then up onto the A472 at Monkswood. After a very short section of this main road we’ll take a right onto Rumble St then follow country lanes past Nant-y-Derry before bearing NE up onto the Chainbridge Road. We’ll turn off here just before the bridge and head back up past the Foxhunter pub to complete this loop. Next stop the Baffle Haus for some well-earned refreshment before crossing the Abergavenny road and heading for the canal. The towpath will take us back to New Inn where we’ll retrace our ‘steps’ for the last mile down to our starting point.

An undulating but very doable ride from the outskirts of Cwmbran through New Inn to Glascoed, Monkswood and the Usk Valley before returning via the Mon & Brec Canal’s towpath.

Mostly country roads and canal towpath. A little on more major roads.

We’ll stop for coffee/lunch at the Baffle Haus.

Helmets obligatory. Inner tubes and tools desirable. Christmas bling optional.

We never leave anyone behind! And please don’t worry about struggling on any hills. There are no horrendous ones on this route and there’s nothing wrong with getting off and taking ‘a hike with a bike’ on any climbs. Everyone will be encouraged to ride at their own pace and nobody minds waiting for others to catch up.
