A steady ride to Fulham Palace with a mix of quiet roads, some busier ones, parks and river paths and segregated cycling lanes. Some confidence in traffic is required for the busier sections. Skinny tyres may struggle on the gravely river paths.
We start riding over the cycling lane on the A40 into Acton and Chiswick High Street and then along the Thames crossing Chiswick Bridge into Mortlake. We cut through Barnes Green and along the London Wetland Centre until we get to the river path towards Putney. We will cycle over the busy Putney Bridge to join Fulham Palace. We stop here for a wander around the palace, and then we will have a coffee break at the Tea House in Bishop’s Park.
After our break we carry on towards Hammersmith Bridge, and cross the big Holland Park roundabout in Shepherd’s Bush (that sounds intimidating but we do it using cycling lanes and pedestrian crossings only). After that, we zig-zag in quiet roads of North Kensington and cross the bridge over the Grand Union Canal into Harrow Road. We aim to be back at Roundwood Park at 2.30pm.
