THIS IS A GUIDED RIDE - aimed at those who want the security of riding in a group. The average speed will leisurely at around 10mph and it’s aimed at those who want to enjoy a social ride with the security of riding in a group.

We leave the historic market town of Lanark on the cycle path passing the scenic Lanark Loch and racecourse before crossing the Clyde at Hyndford Bridge (built in 1773 by Alexander Stevens) and turning left. We are then on quiet, back roads and head over to Pettinain (unfortunately, it’s a steep wee 100 yard climb into Pettinain..bike pushing is always an option here!).

We then head towards Covington, but turn right to continue along quiet roads to emerge at the Eagle Gates that form the entrance to Carmichael Estate. We then head along the main road and cross Hyndford Bridge again before heading back into Lanark.

The vast majority of this route is on cycle paths and quiet roads, but the stretch back to Hyndford Bridge is on the A73, which is a bit busier. Hopefully, it will be quiet on a summer evening.
