Please note that this ride is for CONFIDENT riders.
We start our ride with a climb to the top of Montpelier hill. This will be our worst incline on this ride, as most of it will be along the Grand Union Canal towpath. We will ride with great care, being aware of other users, pedestrians, other cyclists, workmen, pets... The towpath is in parts narrow, has encroaching vegetation and protruding roots, and some repair works are taking place, which will require us to walk along a pontoon bridge with our bicycles. Near Camden we might need to push our bicycles if the area is very busy. After Camden we will re-join the roads and make our way to Finsbury Park to view two murals created by the artist Carrie Reichardt, whose work we recently visited in Acton and Chiswick.

Following our lunch break we will make our way using quieter roads as much as possible via Islington to Farringdon station, where we will take the Elizabeth line back to Ealing Broadway. Other transport options are available at Farringdon, notably the Metropolitan line.

Route rating

This ride is for CONFIDENT riders along narrow towpaths. This is a public transport assisted ride. We will be returning back to Ealing Broadway using the Elizabeth line from Farringdon station.

For a large part of this ride we will be using traffic free trails along tow paths, however these are used by other cyclists and pedestrians and are in parts narrow, bumpy, undergoing repairs, therefore please only come if you consider yourself to be a confident rider. We will also be using quieter roads with small sections along busier parts.

We will stop for refreshments at the E-Mono Turkish café/restaurant in Finsbury Park, where we will be able to store our bicycles safely in the courtyard at the back of the premises. However please bring enough snacks and water to sustain you until we reach our stop, as this is, about 13 miles into our route.

*Helmets aren't compulsory but advisable. *Check that your tyres are pumped and bring a spare inner tube and all necessary tools in case of a puncture. *If you can't make it anymore, cancel your space so someone else can join. *Bring some Money/card for the refreshments in the café. *Bring Locks for your bike. *Bring Water & snacks.

We never leave anyone behind
