Not surprisingly, this is quite a flat route. However, the fens can be windy: come prepared!
We head out towards Ely on a riverside route from Wicken Fen, then through the town passing the cathedral. We then leave the town and complete a loop that showcases some typical Fenland scenery, passing through Coveney, Pymoor and Little Downham. We return through Ely and back along the river path.

A chance to revisit the popular off-road route into Ely, and also see what's beyond the city.

There is a short stretch on good gravel paths, alongside the river Great Ouse. The rest is mainly on flat minor roads, with a few busier sections and some residential streets.

We'll stop at mile 25 for refreshments at Peacocks Cafe in Ely, by the waterside.

For this route you will need a bike that can cope with the gravel track section: either a gravel bike, or a hybrid bike with suitable tyres (e.g. cyclocross tyres). Please ask if you're not sure that what you have is suitable. You'll also need a helmet, refreshment money, puncture kit, lights if possible, and suitable clothes (including a waterproof jacket).

If you've not ridden with me before (Frances), it would be great if you could get in touch to introduce yourself. I'll also need contact details from anyone new, and in particular an email address if you'd like to have the route gpx sent to you nearer the time.
