Evening Ride to the Robin Hood

The ride will leave Robin Park and follow the River Douglas to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath and climb up some of the locks of the Wigan Flight to the cycle route 55 and go through Hindley, Amberswood, Low Hall Park and Fir Tree Flash to Plank Lane. We then follow the towpath to Pennington Flash Country Park and on to country Robin Hood pub for refreshments.

The return journey will be on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath back to Robin Park.

Bottom lock - wheelie (may be open)
Brittania Bridge - wheelie or bypass with the ebikes
Rose Bridge - wheelie or bypass with the ebikes
Route 55 near locks - step over horse stile
Route 55 Ince Green Lane - 2 x step over horse stiles
Route 55 Hindley - 2 x step over horse stiles
Liverpool Road - step over horse stile
Low Hall Woods - 3 x XL (most bikes fit)
Barlows Farm - step over horse stile
Belmont Avenue - H frame
Bickershaw Lane - XL (most bikes fit)
Crankwood Road - step over horse stile
Plank Lane lift bridge - step over horse stile - twice
Dover Lock - step over horse stile
Bamfurlong Bridge - steps up/down to the road bridge

As usual photos will be taken on the ride and will be put on the Wigan and Leigh Cycling Group Facebook page - please notify the ride leaders if you do not want your photo taken.

The ride is a mixture of canal towpath, quiet roads, short stretches of busy roads and tracks and trails.

There will be short stops en route and a longer stop for refreshments at the Robin Hood pub.

Please bring drinks/snacks or money to buy them. Helmets must be worn on this ride. Please ensure that your lights are in working order.

New riders are welcome on our rides and we never leave anyone behind.
